He is followed by Melbourne, which was ousted by Vienna last year after seven years of leadership. Sydney, Ossetia and Calgary are also among the top five in the annual Global Index of Sustainability in 140 Cities around the World, presented in The Economist Intelligence Unit.

Helsinki, Amsterdam and Hamburg were also in the Top 20, while Berlin and Luxembourg were 21st and 23rd, respectively.
Honolulu has become the 22nd best city in the US, with Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Washington among the top 40. London and New York were 48th and 58th, respectively. Their ratings have declined due to higher infrastructure and stability and higher risk of crime and terrorism.
Paris’ stability rating has also fallen due to anti-government protests by “yellow jackets”. The French capital has lost 6 points, ranking 26th.
Damascus is recognized as the least fit city to live in the world, followed by Lagos (Nigeria) and Dhaka (Bangladesh). Caracas is the 10th least fit city to live in.
