Germany Visa Fees Increase to €80 as of February 2020. A short-term visa to Germany will cost to travelers €80 as of February 2, 2020, instead of €60 as it currently is.

Aside from the increase in visa fees by 33.3%, including for children from the age of 6 to 12, the new code consists of the following:

  • Applicants will be able to file an application 6 months before their planned trip to Germany, as currently the earliest an application can be submitted is three months in advance. The latest that an application can be submitted, however, remains two weeks prior to the trip.
  • In countries where it is not present, Germany is obliged to outsource visa admission to another Schengen member country present there, or to an external service provider so that applicants do not need to travel to another country where Germany is present, just to file a visa application.
  • The code introduces a harmonized approach to the issuance of multiple entry visas to regular travelers with a positive visa history for a period, which increases gradually from 1 to 5 years.
  • The code introduces a mechanism that asserts whether the visa fees should change or remain the same, for every three years.
  • It introduces a second mechanism that will use visa processing as leverage, in a bid to improve cooperation with third countries on readmission.
  • Cooperating countries in readmission may benefit from reduced visa fees, or an increase in the period of validity of multiple entry visas.
