To begin with, all issues related to employment and labor relations in Singapore are regulated by the Ministry of Labor of Singapore, and the employment of foreigners is regulated by the Law on Employment of a Foreign Labor (The Employment of Foreign Manpower Act) and the Immigration Act.

These legal acts regulate the entry of foreigners into the territory of Singapore, determine the types of work visas for each category of employee, as well as fines and penalties for violation of migration and labor laws.

In Singapore, there are 15 of the most common types of work visas, which can be divided into 4 main groups:

  • Professionals
  • Skilled and unskilled workers,
  • Trainees and students,
  • Rest.

Below you will find all the main work visas in Singapore with a brief description. I’ll add on my own that for entrepreneurs planning to move to Singapore, in fact, there are only 2 main types of visas: Employment Pass (~ 80% of cases) and EntrePass (~ 15% of cases).

Employment pass

Advantages of this visa:

  • Suitable for any type of business.
  • Possibility to bring a wife / husband and children to Singapore (with a salary of at least 6,000 SGD / month)
  • Possibility to bring parents to Singapore (with a salary of at least 12,000 SGD / month)
  • Lack of local staff requirements

How to relocate to Singapore. Entrepass

For foreign entrepreneurs who want to start and run a new business in Singapore. From the requirements for this visa:

Advantages of this visa:

  • Can be submitted before company registration
  • No wage limit
  • Lack of local staff requirements
  • The opportunity to bring a wife / husband and children to Singapore (at an annual cost of the company of at least 100,000 SGD and the presence of 3 permanent employees)
  • Possibility to bring parents to Singapore (at an annual cost of the company of at least 200,000 SGD and at least 6 full-time employees)

 

How to relocate to Singapore. Important Terms:

  • The company must be no older than 6 months,
  • The applicant must necessarily belong to at least one of the categories with confirmed qualifications: Investor, Innovator or Entrepreneur.
  • Not suitable for all types of business!’

 

Personalized Employment Pass

For current holders of Employment Pass, as well as foreign specialists with high salaries. For owners of Employment Pass working in Singapore, the salary should be at least 12,000 SGD / month, for foreign specialists at least 18,000 SGD / month.

S pass

Designed for mid-level staff. Applicants must earn at least 2,400 SGD per month and meet visa requirements.

Work Permit for Foreign Worker

For unskilled personnel working in the field of construction, production, marine, technological or services sector.

 

Work Permit for Foreign Domestic Worker

For foreign domestic workers with accommodation.

Work Permit for Confinement Nanny

For Malaysian postpartum nannies. Gives the right to work in Singapore for up to 16 weeks, starting from the date of birth of the child of the employer.

Work Permit for Performing Artiste

 

For foreign performers working in public entertainment venues such as bars, hotels and nightclubs.

Training Employment Pass

For foreign professionals who are interns in Singapore. Applicants must earn at least 3,000 SGD per month.

Work Holiday Pass (Under Work Holiday Program)

 

For students and graduates from 18 to 25 years who want to relax and work in Singapore for up to 6 months.

Work Holiday Pass (Under Work and Holiday Visa Program

For Australian students and graduates from 18 to 30 years who want to work and relax in Singapore for up to 1 year.

 

For low-qualified foreign trainees or students who practice in Singapore for up to 6 months.

Miscellaneous work pass

 

For foreigners working in Singapore on a short-term contract not exceeding 60 days.
